As the Ebola virus outbreak continues to run amok in West Africa, scientists are looking ahead to the possibly pivotal use of experimental drugs and vaccines against the disease. It will take months to test, produce and deploy the therapies. But researchers hold out hope that these products — even incompletely vetted — might help to turn the tide against an illness that has defied public health efforts to bring it under control.

Numerical Problems in Physics.

Velocity and Acceleration

1.       A car covers the first half of the distance between two places at a speed of 40 km/h and the second half at 60 km/h. What is the average speed of car?
2.       A stone is thrown vertically upward with a velocity of 24.5 m/s
 (i) Calculate the height to which it rises.
(ii)Calculate also time it takes to reach the highest point.
3.       A body moving with uniform acceleration describes 10m in the 2nd second and 20 m in the 4th second of its motion. Calculate the distance moved by it in the 5th second.
4.       A ball thrown up vertically returns to the thrower after 6sec.
Find
(i) The velocity with which it was thrown up,
(ii)The Height and
(iii)Its position after 4 sec.
5.   A stone falls from the top of a tower 100 m high and at the same time another stone is projected vertically upwards from the ground with a velocity of 25 m/s. Find when and where the two stone will meet.
6.       A stone is dropped from a rising balloon at a height of 300m above the ground and it reaches the ground in 10 sec. What was the velocity of the balloon at the moment the stone was dropped?
7.       A ball is allowed to fall from a tower 80 m high. As soon as the ball reaches half the way, the acceleration due to gravity suddenly disappears. Discuss the condition of the ball after this moment.
8.       From the top of a tower 98 m high, a stone is projected vertically upwards with a velocity of 39.2 m/s. Calculate
 (i) The greatest elevation,
(ii)The velocity with which it strikes the ground and
(iii)The time it takes to reach the ground.
9.       A bullet is fired at an angle of 45o with the horizontal and with a velocity of 900 m/s. How high will it rise and what will be its horizontal range?
10.   An aeroplane flying horizontally with a speed of 300 km/h releases a bomb at a height of 490 m from the ground. When and where will the bomb strike the ground ?
